Body Wisdom Studio

Teachers

Nancy Allen Burns
My practice specialty is Restorative Exercise TM a biomechanical model of wellness taught by Katy Bowman MS.   I'm certified as a Personal Trainer - Restorative Exercise Specialist  CPT-RES.  I also draw heavily on a wide range of  wellness relate training including  M.E.L.T. Method TM focused on the neurofascial system with Sue Hitzmann, Active Isolated Stretching, Stott Pilates, Power Of Yoga taught by Sherri Baptist,Classical Stretch with Miranda Esmonde-White.   My certification as a massage therapist in 2004 also advanced my knowledge of how the body works.  Currently I'm studying the therapeutic applications of the TRX Suspension Training System.  These wellness systems are applied within the paradigm of the Restorative Exercise TM concept of wellness and natural human movement.

I feel there is an instinctive bond between human beings and other living systems.   You'll see from the schedule that I teach various Outdoor Workouts which give us great opportunity to thrive in our wellness, connect with nature, get stronger and a little bit dirty.

I hope you will join us at Body Wisdom Studio and experience for yourself how great your body can feel, at any age.  Don't compromise - live fully!
Nan Ayers

Nan used to Pilates to work out alignment problems she became aware of late in life but which were the result of a motorcycle spill she took in her early twenties.  She's spent the last ten years restoring functionality to her left knee/leg (which 'locked up' in the late 90s) and has been sharing her enthusiasm for core strength and the benefits it bestows upon those who develop it ever since.  She's been a certified Pilates instructor since 2005 and has taught at the YWCA Berkeley, Marin Yoga Center, and several private studios in the SF East Bay.  She's a Certified Massage Therapist, and a Hands-on-Healer.  Nan looks forward to her Spring 2011 certification as a Restorative Exercise Specialist.

Bernard Bedeur

I’ve been a yoga practitioner for over 20 years and studied with direct students of B.K.S. Iyengar for over a decade. I graduated at IYISF`s 500hr program. My passion is woodworking. As a builder and master woodworker I developed a keen eye for precision and alignment that serves me well when keeping a close eye on my yoga students. I studied fine art in my native Belgium before becoming a paratrooper in the Belgium army.  I have a technical degree and love reading.
After suffering chronic pain from my very active lifestyle which includes bay swimming, mountain biking and backcountry backpacking I searched for a non-medical method to become pain free.  With a daily practice of Iyengar yoga I am mostly free of pain.  The art and practice of Iyengar yoga exercises the mind and body, can make you strong, fit, flexible and help restore vitality.  You can contact Bernard at www.heartofthebearyoga.com

Heidi Segedin - Heidi in not currently teaching at the studio

In Heidi's own words:

I consider myself a breath-based yogi. Treasuring the breath comes first, then focus on the yogic body sending the mind to the lungs, the heart, the brain, the liver, etc. and what keeps us alive - the vitals! Particular regard for our delicate physicality makes our spirits cherish our body temples more. Also special attention to the beautiful philosophies of yoga help us to become kinder, more loving, and ultimately better people on our precious earth.
